Ontario has now confirmed its licensing requirements for temporary help agencies and recruiters. The requirements will officially be in place January 1, 2024. Failing to obtain a license can result in fines of up to $50,000 or a ban on operating in Ontario. For employers using temporary help agencies and recruiters, it will be an offense to knowingly use unlicensed business for your staffing needs.
An on-line database of licensed agencies will be created. The province will maintain the database.
You can apply for your license now by heading to https://lnkd.in/gw6TSiBG. It costs $750.00 to apply and agencies will need to provide a $25,000 irrevocable letter of credit with their application.
As long as you apply before January 1, 2024, you should be able to operate until a decision is made on your application. You will have to apply to renew your license each year.
This news should not be surprising for those following proposed changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000, which for some time reflected that the licensing requirements would come into place.
